Q: Could I accidentally make a purchase with my mobile wallet if I’m too close to a reader?
A: Making accidental charges is practically impossible with Google Wallet or Apple Pay. NFC-based contactless readers only work if the payment device is approximately 4 centimeters away—a distance shorter than a car key or your thumb. Plus, there is the additional requirement of Touch ID with Apple Pay and card selection with Google Wallet. Simply walking by a register while someone else is making a purchase will not result in your phone paying for it.
