Financial Independence?

New ways to pay: Samsung Pay & Android Pay Dominion Credit Union now offers four mobile wallet options! With mobile wallet, your card number and identity are never shown to the merchant. You purchase history is stored securely on your device, not servers. Mobile wallets also protect your card with multiple layers of security, including unique digital codes. If your mobile device is lost or stolen, all of the apps can be quickly disabled remotely.

We now offer Android Pay and Samsung Pay in addition to Apple Pay and Google Wallet. Just download your chosen payment app, upload your Dominion Credit Union debit and credit card information, and look for the payWave or Contactless icon when you visit a merchant. All you have to do is hold your phone close to the payment terminal to start paying with your mobile device!

How do inquiries affect credit scores?

There are three credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union. The credit bureaus vary slightly in deciding your credit score, but generally the calculation is:

Payment history: 35%
Amounts owed: 30%
Type of credit used: 15%
New credit: 10-12%
Length of credit history: 5-7%
Score

But what about inquiries? “Inquiries” are requests for a copy of your credit file. There are two types of inquiries:

1 Hard inquiry: The record of access is included in your credit history. Occurs when you apply for credit or when you begin a transaction that results in your credit file being accessed, such as with a bank (for an auto loan, credit card, etc.), landlord, mortgage broker, and sometimes an employer.

2

Soft inquiry: The record of access is not included in your credit history. Occurs when you get your own credit report or credit score, when companies create preapproved credit offers, or when companies access your credit history for insurance, employment, or review of a current loan.

A recent hard inquiry may have a relatively small impact on your credit score, but a soft inquiry will not. Hard inquiries may remain on your credit report for up to two years. If you have a question or a dispute with a specific inquiry, you should first try contacting the company that requested your credit report.

You are legally entitled to one free copy of your credit report every year from each bureau—so we encourage you to request them at annualcreditreport.com.
